John Gaston

John Gaston

Naples Broker

239-240-9788   john@savageyachts.com

John’s early boating years were spent on Barnegat Bay (New Jersey) sailing smaller boats including Lightning, Sneakbox, Sunfish and Catboats. “As a kid my father used me as ‘moving ballast’ during Sunfish races. I loved the water and just messing about in boats.” His crewing and cruising experience included many trips to the Chesapeake Region, Long Island Sound and occasional offshore trips.  As a lifeguard in New Jersey, he learned to respect the water and recognize hazards to both swimmers and boaters. He became a Water Safety Instructor in 1976 and helped train lifeguards through the United States Red Cross Water Safety program. He became a PADI certified SCUBA Diver and was later certified by NAUI as an Advanced Diver.  John earned B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Rochester Institute of Technology.  John’s career in the corporate world spanned thirty years during which time he owned and operated numerous sail and powerboats in the MidAtlantic Region. In 1999 he decided to start his “second career” in the marine industry. He founded, Seaworthy Marine Services LLC in St.Michaels (Maryland) where he became a licensed captain and yacht broker. He also became an active member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.  John and his wife relocated to Bonita Springs, Florida in 2007 where he continues offering captain’s services including on-water training, deliveries, vessel examinations, sea trials and buyer consultations. He now serves as a Staff Officer in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 96 (Wiggins Pass/Naples).  John is a past member of several yacht clubs including Mantoloking YC (New Jersey), Seawanhaka YC (Long Island), Philadelphia Corinthian YC (Pennsylvania) and North East River YC (Maryland). He recently joined Savage Yachts in SW Florida and looks forward to helping the company grow their yacht brokerage business while assisting clients as a captain and yacht sales agent.
